Resumen: Centroamérica es altamente vulnerable y sensible ante los efectos de la variabilidad climática y el cambio climático, fenómeno cuyas transformaciones en los patrones de temperatura y precipitación podrían aumentar tanto la intensidad como la frecuencia de los eventos extremos que suelen producir desastres con significativas pérdidas y daños en la región. Tales impactos afectan obras de inversión e infraestructura críticas así como medios de vida y condiciones socioeconómicas de la población. Frente a esta problemática, la región ha realizado avances enmarcados en la Estrategia regional de Cambio Climático (ERCC), que plantea la necesidad de implementar el blindaje de la infraestructura ante el cambio climático y la Política Centroamericana de Gestión Integral de Riesgo en América Central (PCGIR), que se propone fortalecer a los gobiernos locales en gestión integral del riesgo. El "Mecanismo regional para la gestión integral del riesgo y adopción del blindaje climático en la infraestructura pública", ejecutado por el ICAP y CEPREDENAC, está fomentando experiencias de adopción de blindaje climático en municipios centroamericanos de Honduras, El Salvador y Panamá, interviniendo en obras elegidas por los municipios participantes, para ser beneficiadas con los productos de diseño y gestión que incorporan el concepto del blindaje ante el cambio climático, basado en el enfoque de la gestión del riesgo. Así, resulta clave identificar los retos y oportunidades de adopción del blindaje de la infraestructura en Centroamérica a partir de ésta experiencia y valorar su pertinencia para Costa Rica

Central America is highly vulnerable and sensitive to the effects of climate variability and climate change, phenomena whose transformts, critical infrastructure and livelihoods and socio-economic conditions of the population. Faced with this problem, the region has achieved progress through the regional Strategy on Climate Change (ERCC), which raises the need to implement climate proofing on infrastructure and, the Central American Policy for Integrated Risk Management (PCGIR), which aims to strengthen local governments in integral risk management. The "regional mechanism for integrated risk management and adoption of climate proofing in public infrastructure" carried out by ICAP and CEPREDENAC, is promoting the adoption of experiences of climate proofing in Central American municipalities of Honduras, El Salvador and Panama, intervening infrastructures chosen by the participating municipalities to be benefited with the design and management products that incorporate the concept of proofing to climate change, based on the approach of risk management. Thus, it is essential to identify the challenges and opportunities of adoption climate proofing on infrastructure in Central America based on these experience and to assess their relevance for Costa Rica
