Resumen: Debido al alto promedio anual de muertes por sumersión, reflejado por las estadísticas de la Sección de Estadísticas del Poder Judicial de Costa Rica (PJ) por causa de las corrientes de retorno, se ha juzgado conveniente detallar la causa y características de estas corrientes a escala mundial, y en Costa Rica, en lo particular, así como la obligada consideración de los factores básicos de tomar seriamente en cuenta por el Estado costarricense, con el fin de mejorar la seguridad de nuestras playas en tiempos de significativo incremento del turismo, tanto local como foráneo, hacia estos sitios de diversión y esparcimiento.

Due to the high annual average of deaths by submersion, reflected by the statistics of the Judiciary Authority Statistics Section of Costa Rica (PJ) caused by the rip currents, it has been deemed convenient to detail the cause and characteristics of these currents worldwide, and in Costa Rica, in particular, as well as the obligatory consideration of the basic factors to be taken seriously into account by the Costa Rican State, in order to improve the safety of our beaches in times of significant increase of tourism, both local and foreign, to these sites of fun and recreation.
